 The height of artificial turf, also known as pile height, is the length of the grass blades. Pile height is usually measured in inches or millimeters. The ideal height for artificial turf depends on its intended use.  

 Pile height recommendations 

• 20 mm or less: Easy to clean, suitable for some decorative gardens
• 20–30 mm: Can tolerate heavy foot traffic
• 30–40 mm: Soft underfoot, good for kids
• 40–50 mm: Good for areas with low-to-moderate foot traffic
• 50 mm or more: Looks most natural

Pile height and intended use

• Landscaping: Longer pile heights (1.5–2 in) give a natural look 
• Sports and play areas: Shorter pile heights (0.5–1.25 in) can withstand heavy foot traffic 
• Pet areas: Shorter pile heights are easier to clean and maintain 
• Putting greens: Very short pile heights (0.5–0.7 in) are similar to real putting greens 

 Artificial turf comes in many colors, including green, black, blue, white, and more. The color of the thatch, or short curled fibers, can also vary. 

Factors to consider

• Color scheme: Consider the color scheme of your property or the team you want to represent. 
• Contrast: Consider how the color of the turf will contrast with the property. For example, darker greens can contrast well with lighter properties, while lighter greens can contrast well with darker properties. 
• Heat retention: Darker greens tend to trap more heat from the sun, while lighter greens tend to stay cooler. 
• Wear and tear: The vibrancy of the color may fade over time due to wear and exposure to the elements. 
• Dye lot: Different dye lots may not match perfectly, especially if the turf has been stored for a long time or installed at different angles.

• Olive green: A realistic looking color that pairs well with lighter properties 
• Spring green: A realistic looking color that pairs well with darker properties 
• Field green: A common color for alternating panels in sports fields 
• Lime: A common color for alternating panels in sports fields
